Gizmodo: 2007 Best Designed Weblog
The best designed blog out there is Gizmodo. First off, I’d like to congratulate Gizmodo for this achievement because, in my humble opinion, it is, in fact, quite an achievement. How they achieved even being considered as a contender for the “best designed weblog” is amazing to me but then to turn around and win—well all I can really say is, “Wow!” Not to denigrate the actual designer of this particular blog but come on, look at the other nominees and then look at the “winner” and you can clearly see what a travesty this was.

I’d like offer my sincerest apologies to three of the nominees that were infintely better designed than Gizmodo—Veerle’s Blog, Subtraction and French Toast Girl.
Veerle's Blog
Subtraction Blog
French Toast Girl's Blog

These three blog nominees obviously took time to consider the layout and design as part of the overall feel of their blog, which isn’t something that can be said about Gizmodo’s blog I’m afraid. Maybe I’ll start holding a yearly contest that rivals The Annual Weblog Awards and ask a jury of my peers to help judge it. This contest could actually be based on something other than popularity—it’s called merit.

Are there blogs in cyberspace that you think are more deserving than Gizmodo or the nominees? Let me know.

PK- Don’t you wish you could edit comments? :)
I’m glad to hear your opinion on the matter and I bet this win will bring you more work (fingers crossed).

Very nice site you link to!

er, that should have read “the weblog awards.” not the webbies.

i was surprised too. i gave it ten minutes of thought before moving on. the webbies obviously don’t measure much more than who’s the current popular kid on the block, and they certainly haven’t a great grasp of typography on their own. i’m not taking their opinion seriously.

that’s my opinion, not gawker media’s or gizmodo’s. i only speak for myself.

i designed the visual portions of gizmodo. gawker media’s overall layout and code is produced internally, which i say because i don’t like the code much.

our own code actually looks like this, and the visual design is a lot more indicative of our work as well.

Nah, I don’t have that competitive spirit. Plus there are tons of blogs out there that are way better designed than mine.

I agree about the Subtraction choice, it would have been mine too.
