As a freelancer, you’ll have downtimes and this frees you up to blog to your hearts’ content. You’ll read on other blogs that blogging is actually good for business and I personally subscribe to this belief. So what happens when design work gets in the way of blogging? As a freelancer, I’m always “hustling” to drum up new business, this is part of the “fun” that comes with being a freelancer—your next paycheck is your responsibility and if you aren’t always working that angle, then you’ll be poor. I think we can all agree being poor is not fun. However, if blogging actually helps bring you business how to you marry the two? How do you make time for business-building through blogging when you barely have enough time to work?
Thoughts? Suggestions?
9 People Have Bloviated

I’ve simply added blogging into my workflow. It becomes part of my morning – just as responding to email and checking the news has. I begin with looking at site stats from the day before while my feeds download. I also open my blog and write a fresh post. Then I read my feeds for posts to comment on. Then I’ll check CoComments to track conversations I’m in. That’s it. Usually in 90 minutes I have everything done. Sometimes longer, but rarely more than 2 hours.
I sometimes – like now – break up the day by looking at new posts written to comment on. But I only do so in blocks and for a 20 minutes tops. Then I take a 10 minute break from the computer and I’m back to my ‘work.’
I’ve found blogging to be exceptional at growing interest in my business and helping me land clients. So I pay it more attention than any other marketing means.
And just so you know, I’ll be watching this comment thread in CoComments for replies.

Thanks Dawud… I guess I just haven’t gotten into the flow of things yet and making it part of my morning/evening ritual.

I know. I took me a while too. Luckily I had the feed reader piece and commenting in place before I began blogging.
I also know that if I don’t have a work flow to follow, my days will just sort of melt away while I blog and I’ll get no client work done.

This question I do not have the answer to, otherwise I wouldnt still be taking the bus to work every morning. However Id think it would strongly be associated with popularity, spreading your name about and getting the word-of-mouth flowing.
