I received a letter from my local VW car dealership this week telling me I qualified for refinancing. I thought to myself, “Who can’t stand to save some money?” Well, after 5 hours in the dealership yesterday, I drove away in a 2007 VW Jetta with lower payments than I had for my 2004 VW Golf. This is the first time in my life I’ve had a brand new car. I’d say things are looking up for me financially since going freelance—I’ve got a brand new car and I’ve bought my first-ever brand new sofa. I’m just thankful that my freelance business is working out for me and affording me the opportunity for firsts. I hope my luck holds out.

Congratulations Jen – enjoy the new car. I’m still waiting for the day I’ll be able to drive off in a brand new car. For now though, I’m more than happy with my Alfa 147.
btw – the Jetta is called the Bora in the UK for some reason. I’ve never quite worked out why…

Usually I like the styling of the UK VWs more than the US. What I really wanted was a new Golf GTI but that was way out of budget.

I had a 2005 Jetta and I loved it!! The sunroof started leaking so I had to get rid of it, but I have been looking at the new Jetta’s again. The Golf GTIs are cool too.

I didn’t get a sunroof with the Jetta… couldn’t afford that option. One of the things that I find really great about the car so far is that parking it is a breeze with the steering, it’s nice and loose, not stiff like my Golf.

Glad to know your freelance business is prospering – so how long did it take for you to gain a firm footing – was it good from the start?

Orderer: It took me about 2 months to get some steady work but I’ve also been lucky. I made some contacts prior to going freelance that have now helped me in my freelance ventures.
Fingers crossed, knocking on wood and any other thing that is supposed to ward off the bad that my good fortune will continue.
