20 People Have Bloviated

  1. Amnell | May 2

Hehe, some love it, some hate it. It sure is a stupid design (thou soooo fancy)….
I’ve just tried the mouse for about 2 mins so i can’t say if i love it or hate it. I’ve thought about buying one, but found out that it aint compatible with the mouse shortcuts i love to use in opera (holding right mouse button then clicking the left mouse button to go back, and vice versa) :(

Keep up the good work, nice blog :)

I love the mouse in general but that whole scroll ball issue, as you can read, really upsets me. I now have a new Kensington Ci60 Wireless mouse and scrolling is happening once again.

Funny thing, on the way to get my new mouse I discovered I have a blister on my finger from trying to get the Apple mouse working again.

  3. Danny | May 2

Yeah, I agree. My first one died. Apple was kind enough to replace it for me (whoopee). I find that the button design is more annoying than the scroll wheel. I’ve disabled the “side buttons” because I either had to squeeze them to death to get them to work, or they were so sensitive that I couldn’t touch my mouse without activating them (and there was no way to tell which it was going to be on any given use). And right-clicking is just as annoying; if you leave your finger on the left “button”, it won’t sense the right-click. I find that turning the mouse over and giving the scroll-ball a vigorous once-over usually clears up any gunk without q-tips and alcohol. All that said, I replaced my MM with a tablet and I’m not looking back.

The Mighty Mouse is a design failure. It accomplishes nothing it was made to do. You can’t scroll and it’s pretty hard to right-click. That said, it’s hard to find a mouse that is slick-looking enough to go with a Mac, which I’m sure most people struggle with.

  5. Pop Stalin | May 5

I’m a huge Mac fan and part of that obviously is in the design of their products. However, I also want and expect a product that is made by Apple to work well. I agree this is a design failure, at least in terms of use because it still “looks” damn good, but when it comes to usability, they certainly fell down here. If I’m shelling out $50 for a mouse, I expect it to work properly for more than 5 months.

So far I’ve been happy with the Kensington mouse I got, though I’m not used to the size and ergonomics of it yet, it works well and that’s the most important thing about a mouse.

Now… I’ve read a lot about this problem, and there are loads of dodgy methods to fix it, like upturning it and pouring spirits in n stuff. Is there any good alternative, because I’ve decided to get a mac at last :)

  7. Pop Stalin | May 7

Woo hoo Steve! I never found a good alternative—I’d suggest just getting a different mouse from the outset and you won’t have to worry about all the dodgy methods. :)

  8. Hindu Blog | May 8

Not to mention they are overpriced… I almost regret getting one – the only saving grace is that it is so damn cute :)

  9. Pop Stalin | May 9

    They are damn cute! :)

  10. Stephen | May 27

its all about looks for mac users….no wonder 72 percent of mac owners are gay.

Have owned many Macs, only one Apple mouse.

As great as Apple hardware is, their mice and keyboards are awful.

  12. Recensione: impressioni e giudizi su iMac con Leopard | Nov 28

[...] Note dolenti. Inoltre la calamita per agganciare il remote control (assai difficile da trovare) è debole e non sempre riesce a reggere i pochi grammi del gadget, che finisce quindi per impolverarsi sulla scrivania. the stunned proximity sensor on the wireless mighty moose has failed on mine. so much for right click. fooking garbage, i tell ya & it ain’t cheap, either! plus it devours batteries. i’ll try the apple store to see if they’ll replace the busted thing.

  15. Pop Stalin | Dec 20

I now own a Kensington Wireless mouse and I’ve had no problems so far. I just bought a pack of rechargeable batteries and I’m set.

  16. Bill | Jul 20

Just got off the phone w/mac tech guy who says he’s not aware of any problems. Asked him about sending the computer back (my first mac). After he talked to his svisor he told me wthn 14 days. Been almost a month. Screwed. Unlike most, my biggest complaint is the two-speed feature wherein the thing slows down to a crawl when you get half inch from the icon you want to click. I would NOT recommend anyone switch to mac. Just deal with Vista on a PC, the devil you know.

  17. Richard | Jul 27

I love my Mac but i hate the mouse! I think i’ve cursed it about a million times and bought me a nice Logitech wich clicks where i want it to, doesn’t hurt my hand and has a wheel that doesn’t jam all the time! Mightymouse sucks big time!

  18. Jen | Jul 30

    @Bill-
Sorry your first Mac experience hasn’t been a pleasant one but I can honestly say since I made the switch almost 10 years ago, I’d never go back. I’m guessing you’re having some rare issues.

    @Richard-
Couldn’t agree more. I had to go to the Genius bar the other day and I watched this woman bring in her Mighty Mouse and the guy told her they sell a “special cloth” to help clean it. I thought to myself, why not create a better mouse? Oh well!

  19. Brooklynatic | Aug 4

I hate hate hate my Mighty Mouse. It is sooooooooo slow, I have the worst carpet tunnel just from using it a year now and the entire right side of my body hurts due to the constant crawling, it is like shifting a piece of lead over the table and onto the screen. Oh my, the mighty mouse is just the slowest piece of equipment I have ever owned. Curse the MM, curse it! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…they should have called it mighty snail. Do not buy this product. I had to vent, sorry…I love my MAC otherwise. I do.

  20. Jane | Aug 11

So far the mouse scrolls more smoothly, but I just substituted an old Kensington wheel mouse because the Mighty Mouse’s tiny scroll ball irritates my index finger far more than the rubber-padded wheel. Not as smooth a scroll, but that irritation is distracting when you are scrolling many lengthy documents while researching.
