I’ve finally taken the plunge and am switching hosts. I decided to go with HostiCan after having heard and read good things about them. The main reason for moving is two-fold; first I wanted a server that provided PHP5 so I can use ActiveCollab as a client extranet and second, I’ve received too many emails from Lorissa saying, “Oh by the way, you’re site’s down,” or “You’re emails are bouncing.” Thanks for that Lorissa, I appreciate it. I’ve been with my current host for over a year and half and the new ownership didn’t do what I’d hoped so I’m packing my virtual bags and getting new digs.
I’m using their trademarked “SwitchNow” service—they’re going to tranfer my site for me (just waiting on the confirmation now). Hopefully things won’t get weird here once I transfer over completely. I’ve done my best to set things up so there is little to no down-time. Speaking of down-time, this company has a 99.9% uptime claim (supposedly) so there shouldn’t be any more downtime.

Yayness! Congrats on the move. I don’t know anything about the company you are using, but I do know one of the hosts I use claims 99.9% uptime and well…that’s a joke really. So, let me know if they do live up to their claim. It’d be nice to see a hosting service actually provide a reliable service for a change. (I’m not bitter or anything. No, really.)

I know it’s only been one day but so far I’m happy with the service. My site is faster and the customer support is spot on. I called them yesterday and got a real live human, didn’t have to wait and the guy was super-nice. Even complimented my on my site design.
Then I sent them a support ticket yesterday asking them to implement something on my server and within a half-hour it was done.
As far as the uptime? Well, we’ll see about that, won’t we?
My Experience with HostiCan After 29 Days | Pop Stalin Designs’ Design Blog | Mar 1
[...] I decided to write a little mini-review updating my experience so far with HostiCan. As I wrote 29 days ago, I switched from Siteocity to HostiCan because I wanted to use ActiveCollab. I was also having some issues with Siteocity’s uptime—it seemed I was down at least twice a month and I just can’t have that being a freelance web designer. I had mentioned they have a feature called “SwitchNow” that transfers your site from one host to another and it worked flawlessly. [...]
HostICan Review - Promo-Code.net | Apr 13
[...] She had two reasons to move. She wanted a server with PHP5 and she wanted better uptime. She used HostICan’s SwitchNow service, where they transfer all your files and databases from your old web host, and apparently it worked flawlessly. [...]
