Want to learn how to make repetitive graphics in Illustrator? It’s quite simple. I’ll use a honeycomb effect as our example.

1. Create your initial graphic by choosing the Polygon tool from your toolbar:

Step 1

2. Once you’ve drawn your Polygon shape rotate it 45 degrees so it looks like the following:

Step 2

3. Next you’re going to want to Offset the path by going to Object > Path > Offset Path:

Step 3

4. Depending on how close you want your honeycomb effect is how much path offset you will choose. Play around with it.

Step 4

5. To continue this action, just choose the outermost Polygon shape and follow the above steps.

Step 5

A note: If you want to go from the outside to the inside, you will follow the exact same steps as above but use a negative value for your offset. For example instead 4px (or your prefered unit of measure) it would be -4px.
